✧ 03. Archive - The Voice of a Vessel
This comes from the original notion page, which may reference or outright link to now-deleted tweets.
I've since deleted Celia's twitter account, but I wanted to keep these pages up for archiving and logging my thoughts.
Choosing CVs is a very intimate process to me.
I mean, a person’s voice is one of the first things you notice, right? Oftentimes, there are characters who have a very interesting design, but then the voice doesn’t fit — because there’s a perception of one’s voice based on their appearance and personality. An example I can think of is Yumemizuki Mizuki from Genshin… she has a very bright and cutesy appearance, but then her voice is deep and soothing. It doesn’t exactly match, but in that case I feel as if it ends up working out.
But with that idea in mind, picking the right CV that matches the appearance yet also conveys the idea you have in mind for them is … hard.
When choosing Celia’s, there was a bit of bias… at the time I was at the peak of her development, I was listening to a lot of Takashiro Miyo’s music. This habit ended up influencing a lot of things, even down to associating her with goats. But in particular, her voice ended up influenced a lot as well as much of her imagery.
It’s a high, dreamy voice that feels very nostalgic and soothing. Makes you feel at home, even if you’ve never heard the song before — that’s a rare quality to find nowadays. There aren’t many good examples of the speaking voice, however. I’ll embed one that I could find.
Suzuka was a bit of a last minute choice. Being a direct outlier in all vessels, I wanted her voice to be a bit different. However, it also meant she provides a contrast to Celia and Alice — and it’s not the same one voice three times over.
So, I decided to bring her a little closer to Echo by having them share the same voice. Besides, with her being so different, wouldn’t it mean she’s the closest to Echo?
Haha, that’s a piece of logic I can’t explain. :)
This sort of idea for CVs also influenced the choice for the Triad’s theme — although Yashiroma Mea isn’t anyone’s CV, I think she represents Alice in a way.
There’s a demo version of しるべ that I like. But I think splicing the two is impossible.
That’s all on my thoughts on voices. :)
